Detox water or simply known as clean water, is one of the simplest and most effective ways to improve your well-being. The human body is made up of roughly 70% water, so if you’re cleaning up your diet, it’s vital to clean up and increase water intake. Luckily, there’s many ways to do that.
What’s in your tap water?
First off, there’s a host of different chemicals that are in regular tap water. One of the toxins in water is lead. Lead can get into our water due to damaged pipes or the plumping fixtures that deliver our water when we turn on the tap.
There’s a few ways you can reduce lead and other toxins in your drinking water:
- Avoid drinking hot water from the hot tap. You’ll also want to avoid use hot water from the tap for cooking, since how water dissolves lead faster than it does cold water.
- For safe measure, run the tap for 30 seconds before drinking from it. This process will help ensure you’re not receiving water that’s been sitting in your pipes for a while.
- Test your tap water for lead
- Buy a water filter (if you’ve determined a high amount of lead in your drinking water)
Second, there can be various germs and microorganisms found in ground water, river water, well water, and even bottled water. And lastly, tap water may have trace amounts of chlorine and other chemicals in it due to: sewage runoff, or contaminated runoffs from farms, etc. What’s worse is that these toxins can remain in the water even after it’s treated. Get a water filter!
Transform your tap water into clean, clear, detox water
There’s a number of different ways you can clean up your water that are easy, effective, and cost friendly. The key is to start anywhere, with what you can. If you can drink some form of purified or filtered water, you’ll be well on your way.
Hands down, the best water to drink it steam distilled water. Distilled water contains little to no contaminants and is the safest healthiest water available. A true detox water. It’s the closest thing to pure H2O that you’ll drink. While it is missing some vital minerals, these minerals can be provided to you through your diet.
These filters contain activated carbon filters that remove most of the chlorine in tap water. That being said, it’s important for these filters to be replaced regularly (every 2-3 months) so they are efficient and don’t hold bacteria within the unit or filter.
Though hesitant to put this on the list for environmental reasons, it’s a safe bet if this is the first step you can take. Even with bottle water you may find trace amounts of heavy metals and bacteria. I want to say it again, it’s my least favorite method of getting clean detox water. And I’ll give you a suggestion below that may be useful if you do need to choose bottled water first. Please note: plastic bottles when heated can pose dangers as there’s possible contamination if the plastic gets too hot. As always, be sure to recycle.

The best filters for detox water (in order)
- Water Distiller. It’s an investment, but you only do it once and it’s incredibly effective. Shop water distiller
- Water filters. This one by SOMA is fantastic, and the one I personally use. There are many on the market, so check this one out and see what others are recommended.
- Reusable water bottles. Instead of single-use plastic bottled water, buy a few reusable water bottles and fill them up with filtered water. Easy, and on the go!
If you’re looking to level up your detox water by adding nutrients to it, I recommend adding apple cider vinegar, lemon, or ginger juice. You can also make delicious detox drinks with this clean water. Honestly, this is the best way to get started with drink clean healthy water and supporting your health goals in an easy way. The cleaner your water, the more nourished you will be from the inside out.
